The Wage Subsidy Scheme (WSS) which aims to encourage private sector Employers to offer sustainable employment to people with disabilities will expand significantly next year.
What is the Wage Subsidy Scheme?
The WSS pays a subsidy to an Employer if a disabled Employee has the skills for the job, but due to their disability produces about 20% less work compared to an Employee who has no disability doing the same work over the same length of time.
The scheme gives a total subsidy to Employers of between €12,776 and €19,165 per year for each Employee based on a 39-hour working week (there are three strands depending on the number of Employees with disabilities an Organisation employs).
